It seems that with all the rain and cloudy days we received in June, the summer has been a month shorter than normal. As students get settled back into routines, and adults prepare for the fall, we couldn’t think of a better place to break out of the ordinary than Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom! Most people think of roller coasters only in the summer time, but we would like to recommend that you and your family test the cooler weather, shorter lines and special ticket prices offered this fall.

Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom is located in Louisville. It is an easy, couple hour drive from Berea up I-75 until just past Lexington where you bear left and follow I-64 west into Louisville. From there just follow the signs. Kentucky Kingdom is only 5 miles from Downtown Louisville and on the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center grounds.

The park advertises over thirty-five rides and adventures for the whole family. Their newest roller coaster opened this spring and is called “Greezed Lightnin.” It moves from zero to 60 mile per hour in six seconds. It showcases a large loop that passengers get to experience forwards and backwards. If this ride doesn’t excite everyone in the family, there are also numerous family rides to experience, including the Tin Lizzies antique cars, hot air balloon rides, and a carousel. Also, you won’t be able to miss the numerous TV stars (like Bugs Bunny and his friends) walking around the park.

For the month of September the park has special hours. They are closed all weekdays but open at 11am on Saturday and close again at 9pm. On Sundays they open at 11am and close at 6pm. For October they will be open three days a week, Friday 5pm-11pm, Saturday 12pm-12am, and Sunday 12pm-8pm. Special events are held at the park monthly. On September 20th, the park will be hosting the Colgate Country Showdown. This will be a live show full of vocal stars in the State Finals. The hit country band, Emerson Drive, will headline the event and all country music lovers are invited to attend.

Tickets for Kentucky Kingdom can be purchased at the door, or from participating AAA. If you are planning your trip in advance we suggest you try purchasing your tickets from their web site www.sixflags.com where they are always ½ off, at only $18.50 each. If you are interested in knowing more about the park feel free to contact them through their web site or by calling 1-(800)-SCREAMS.

Enjoy your break from the ordinary!
