Fall Guild Fair

Wanda Frankum Greene talked about her artwork with visitors as she worked on her latest piece of pottery. Greene first showed her artwork in the fair decades ago as a young adult, she then took time off for a career, but is now retired and made her début back into the art world this weekend as a new exhibitor.

After a new logo, much anticipation and prayers for good weather conditions, the sensational Fall Guild Fair has come and gone.

Promotional efforts for the Fall Fair began many months before the event. Kirby Stevens and Jim Holton are to thank for the design and promotion of the event, as well as the KGAC (Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen). This much-anticipated event allows Berea to show off its wonderful features to numerous visitors.

After a wet start, this years Fall Guild Fair proved to be a success. The skies cleared by Saturday and the warm sun welcomed visitors to Indian For Theater. Approximately 120 artists from around Kentucky, along with a few guest exhibitors from elsewhere, proudly displayed their work on the weekend of October 11 through 13. Of those in attendance, approximately thirteen were new exhibitors to Berea's fair. Those who hadn't experienced Berea's people, and outdoor surroundings found it to be an unexpected treat.

The laid back atmosphere, smell of fresh kettle corn, and the sound of creativity coming to life provided visitors with a one of a kind shopping environment. Artists were stationed by displays of their work and willingly answered questions of guests throughout each day. Approximately 15 live demonstrations were scattered throughout the weekend, and numerous hands on activities were also provided for both adults and kids.

Live music performances were presented throughout the weekend. Numerous bands preformed country, bluegrass, gospel, blues and acoustical music. Visitors took time from shopping to watch the performers and enjoy a fresh snack.

This years Fall Guild Fair proved to be another success; all those that had a hand in organizing it should once again be proud. If anyone is interested in information about the next guild fair or about having a booth in an upcoming guild fair, you can contact the Guild at infor@kyguild.org
