Hot Weather Brings Business to Local Pool

In March, the trees and plants had already begun to bloom. By the second week in June, Berea was experiencing the hottest day recorded in the last two years. The weather alone provides a great reason to stop by the pool for a relaxing and refreshing afternoon.

The pool is not only used to escape the summer heat; pool parties, a full concession stand, and swim lessons are also available. Jennifer Renfroe, recreation director, states that most of July and August are already booked for pool parties, yet a few dates are still available. Swim lessons at the pool are currently in secession and will start again on July twentieth.

Currently the pool is averaging six hundred people a day. There are five pool attendants, twenty-five lifeguards, two assistant pool managers, and one pool manager that help keep the pool running. In addition, the concession stand and front desk require a hand full of employees to operate.

As always, when water is involved, there are set rules to keep visitors safe. Lifeguards are posted throughout the pool area; therefore making it easy to reach any section of the pool in seconds. The lifeguards are given regular brakes from the sun when they are able to swim and get refreshments throughout the day. During this time the pool is only open for adults to swim. Other set rules include no running on the pool deck, and no glass of any sort past the front gate. The rules are enforced to protect all who enter the pool area.

The Central Kentucky Swim Conference will be hosted in Berea this year. Renfroe says they are very excited about the Conference coming to Berea and they are looking forward to the opportunity to host the occasion. The conference will take place from July 15 thru the 17.

The Pool Slide

The pool features include changing areas, bathrooms, and showers for both genders. There is a wading pool for toddlers, two diving boards, swim lanes, a slide, and a "mushroom" waterfall. Shaded seats are also provided in the concession area for individuals not seeking the sun. Families are encouraged to bring all ages to visit the pool.
